.a��a. .a�@�a. .a�@�a. ::::: ;@@@@@@@; ;@@@@@@@; ;@@@@@@@; :::: ::::: �@@@ @@@� .a@�' @@@@ @@�' :::: ::::: @@@@�@@@@ .a@@@aa@; @@@@�@@@a :::: `��� ���' `�������' `��� ���' �gE! -- originally released on 07/14/00, updated on ../../.. -- == ( disclaimer ) ========================================================/\== this program comes without a warranty. run it at your own risk. == ( program use ) =======================================================/\== run PATCH.EXE in your napster directory. if you don't want to fix the valid mp3 listing bug, run PATCH.EXE with the command line '/nofix'. == ( final notes ) =======================================================/\== this is a search and destroy patch for the napster client for windows. napster is a popular program which is capable of letting you share your mp3 collection with other users on the internet. when beta 6 was released, there were a few problems that kept coming up regarding wrapster files and other select mp3s. beta 6 employs a new mp3 detection algorithm, one which checks for actual frames inside of a file that has an mp3 header. since wrapster uses only an mp3 header to disguise your files, it doesn't fool beta 6's new verification routine. this patch allows you to share wrapster files with the beta 6 client for windows. it should work with future versions of napster as well due to the search and destroy nature of the patch. as an added feature, this patch also corrects a bug that has existed in napster since its beta 4 release. the bug prevents legitimately encoded mp3 files of a certain frequency or bitrate from being added to your shared files list. during personal testing some encoders produced valid files, while others such as Fraunhofer's industry standard scheme failed. this patch requires a certain amount of care after being applied to your napster client. if a file has '.mp3' as its extension but does not contain a valid header, it will crash the napster client when you attempt to share it. if you feel that you don't want to take any chances, feel free to run the patch with the '/nofix' parameter. to the programmers of napster : your software is good. you're missing one very important feature. when searching for a song, process all results from the server in the client like normal. however, before showing the files available, filter the list with a customizable blacklist.
